After a very difficult week for both teams, suffering bad defeats after leading, each will want to bounce back quickly and get going once again.
Juve played Verona in what many believed to be a simple game, however Verona have been in such good form that doubting their ability to hurt any team, would be a mistake, and it was for Juventus. Ronaldo scored but then Verona came back to collect all 3 points and jump to 6th in the table.
Adding to Juve’s woes, Inter and Lazio both won to make the title race extremely interesting. Unfortunately for Milan fans, this Derby loss would have been hard to swallow.
Milan coming into the derby had not lost in 2020, showing grit and enough determination to climb back up the table and show some quality in front of goal.
In the derby, that no loss streak came to an abrupt end losing 4–2 after leading 2–0 in the first half.
Both teams will have a lot to prove.
Form (Last 5 games)
Milan vs Juve (Head to Head)
In the last 5 meetings for the two sides, Juve have won all 5 matches. 4 in the league, and once in the same cup competition in 2018. On that occasion, they won 4–0.
Juve come into this with a lot to think about, hosting Brescia 2 days later in the league, needing to collect 3 points, Sarri using squad rotation is likely and It is something that might just give Milan a chance.
Milan will also come into this game with a lot of questions, but need to focus on what went right during the derby, rather than wrong. If this game showed anything, it’s that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is far from a washed up old man. He is still a match winner against any opponent. And Milan need him.
Juve do not look like the runaway team they have in previous years, but even during this difficult spell, continue to win and stay at the top of Italian football. Milan need to be perfect for 90 minutes, which means keeping players including Dybala, Ronaldo and Costa quiet. It is a huge challenge, but it is clear Milan continue to improve.
With Juve still involved in all competitions, 2 days rest and a slight dip in form to think about, Milan have a great chance to get a much needed win in this home leg. The writing was on the walls for Inter, but Milan let the chance slip. Will it happen again, or will the result match the fans desire?
With only a few games left in the competition, lifting a trophy would be nice.
