AC Milan are in dire need of reinforcements in the middle of the park.

Coach Gattuso is heavily reliant on the creativity of Bonaventura and an injury to Jack could spell disaster for Milan’s season. Montolivo continues be the first-choice backup for all midfield roles with Locatelli becoming a marginalised figure in recent weeks.

Therefore, it’s not only unsurprising, but also a little obvious that Milan are in the market for a midfield controller. Recent reports have suggested that the Rossoneri are looking to bring in Barcelona’s André Gomes to the San Siro.

The Portuguese midfielder has struggled since his arrival to the Camp Nou and after two years, there appears to be very little light at the end of the tunnel. In a revealing interview, Gomes recently spoke of how the pressure has affected his mental health and his performances as a whole. While some might associate this with mental weakness, a lot of it has to do with the negative criticism he has received since his big-money move from Valencia.

Before moving to Catalunya, Gomes was a highly regarded prospect wanted by the likes of Juventus, Real Madrid and Manchester United. However, his stock has since gone down and many at Barcelona think he is as good as out the door.

Milan’s financial condition means that the club cannot invest in big money names. However, Gomes could be available at a cut-price and Gattuso is exactly the kind of coach he needs. Rino has famously helped Hakan Çalhanoğlu return to form and the players have praised his motivational skill on numerous occasions. If the coach could do the same for Gomes, not only will Milan have one of the best midfield prospects in the world, they would have the midfield controller they so desperately need.

The Portuguese can play deep and spring passes while making decisive dribbles and creating chances. His workrate, while not great, can be improved over time with the right management.

AC Milan should go all in and sign André Gomes because this kind of a situation does not present itself very often.
