AC Milan are set to complete the signing of Juventus’ Italian centre-back Leonardo Bonucci in a statement signing in a €40 million deal, plus bonuses.

We are still waiting on official confirmation, but considering Bonucci has already appeared on Milan’s in-house media channels, and arrived at Casa Milan, it is widely acknowledged that the deal is done. What a steal!

Bonucci is set to become the most expensive defender in Serie A history, and one of the highest paid players in the league over the course of a five-year contract that will pay the defender €6.5 million. Journalist Matteo Bonetti rejected this, and on Twitter confirmed that the contract will be €7.5 million a year, and that the Italian will be made captain of Milan. The truth might be somewhere in between.

This deal is widely regarded as a coup for Milan, and completes a full-scale renovation of the defense at Milan. Rodriguez, Musacchio, Bonucci and Conti will feature in a new look back four for Milan, that gives the option for a back three alongside Alessio Romganoli.

This came as a surprise, and while the deal was laughed off by the football media, it is Milan fans who seem to have had the last laugh on this occasion.
