It was a busy day for the market duo Fassone-Mirabelli today since they didn’t only reach an agreement for Wolfsburg’s Ricardo Rodriguez, but they even got closer to sign Atalanta’s midfielder Franck Kessie. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, AC Milan will pay €28 million, including bonuses, and sign the 21-year-old midfielder to a €12.5 million/5-year contract.
This is a pretty expensive move even for a young and promising player like Kessie, who has been good only during the first half of the season. In effect, game after game it looked more like he was just a good player who fit well in a great system rather than a great player who could really make a difference. This does not mean that the Ivorian midfielder will be a bad acquisition, he just might not be as good as the price would suggest.
However, Kessie could bring his great strength and energy to Milan’s midfield, playing alongside Manuel Locatelli and Giacomo Bonaventura. In particular, he could be the box-to-box midfielder the Rossoneri desperately need to improve their play and Vincenzo Montella will definitely like what he can do.
