Despite not yet making a Serie A appearance for the Rossoneri, Milan's young midfielder Jose Mauri will stay at AC Milan for the remainder of the season according to reports from Sky Italia.

The Italo-Argentine looked to be heading out on loan to another Serie A club, with Bologna, Chievo, and Atalanta tipped to be the most likely destinations for the teenage midfielder.  However it appears as though Mauri will not be leaving in January after manager Sinisa Mihajlovic requested that he be taken off of the transfer list.

Mauri has only made two official appearances for the Rossoneri since signing with the club in the summer after his contract with Parma was rescinded.  With the rumored departures of midfielders Antonio Nocerino, and Nigel de Jong, it appears as though Mihajlovic is ready to give Mauri a bigger role in the squad.

The news of Mauri staying put looks like another indicator that the Rossoneri will not make significant upgrades to the midfield in January.  By promoting the sparsely utilized Jose Mauri, Milan wouldn't necessarily need to bring in two new faces to replace the outgoing Nocerino and de Jong, hoping to combine their minutes into a more expansive and useful role for the teenaged midfielder.

While it remains how many players will arrive before the January transfer window closes, fans should not get their hopes up if the Mauri situation is any indication of what is to come. It might wind up being a much quieter mercato than many are hoping for.
