Here are some key battles to look out for:

Key Battles

Striker vs Centre back

Romelu Lukaku vs Simon Kjaer

Lukaku has scored 5 goals against Milan and goes up against arguably the worst natural centre back pairing we have due to the injury crisis. This is a huge match up and Kjaer must roll back the years to put in a big performance. The physical aspect of the duel will be taxing on the Rossoneri and Lukaku’s ability to hold up the ball makes the likes of Belotti, Pellegrini and Bove threats running in late. Kjaer has shown some frailty in recent matches since returning from injury as he is not able to run and not complete the 90 minutes, we need somethign else tonight.

Striker vs Centre back

Olivier Giroud vs Gianluca Mancini

Giroud scored through a penalty against Empoli to open his account for 2024 and to get double figures for the 14th consecutive season but he has been invisible in games. He is not getting on the ball enough and barely has chances from open play. This needs to be remedied, he needs to be an aerial threat and must work off his fellow attackers to make himself felt. He has the ability to pull defenders and provide assists too, we need that tonight. Mancini is a hothead and can be frustrated so that will be the target for Giroud to force errors and create space.

Striker vs Centre back

Andrea Belotti vs Matteo Gabbia

The focus today will be on our defence as Gabbia and Kjaer seems slow, clunky and lacking chemistry. Belotti has not been his best at Roma but is still a threat when the opportunities are presented. Lukaku has the ability to draw in both our centre backs which will open space for Belotti and we need to shut these spaces down or he might get in the scoresheet. Gabbia was unfortunate to get the kncok of his head last time out but needs to show growth from his six months in Spain and deliver a strong performance.

Lukaku Winner

Giroud Winner

Gabbia Winner
