AC Milan travelled to face Cagliari and came home with a stunning win after an early setback. Stefano Pioli’s side won 3-1 with a number of major rotations which included a debut start for Noah Okafor, a second start for Samuel Chukwueze and Marco Sportiello as well as a long awaited start for Yacine Adli. Alessandro Florenzi rounded out the rotations.
Milan faced an early set back as Adli was dispossessed in the box and Luvumbo fired a rocket at Sportiello to give Claudio Ranieri’s side the lead. Milan responded well remaining on the front foot and constantly attacking which caused Cagliari to crack as their keeper spilled a cross which Okafor calmly collected, rolled over and fired in for his first ever goal in red and black. Milan’s equaliser shifted the momentum and we began hitting even harder. A well rehearsed set piece brought the second goal as the corner was passed to Tijjani Reijnders who drove to the line and squared the ball hard and low for Fikayo Tomori to simply direct in from point blank range with his knee. 2-1 for Milan before the end of the first half.
The second half saw the introduction of Yunus Musah and Tommaso Pobega early on to manage the pace of proceedings. Pulisic made a run out wide before playing a long diagonal pass to Ruben Loftus-Cheek in space. The Englishman collected the ball, paused and whacked it into the bottom corner from quite a distance outside the box for his first Milan goal and the thrid of the game.
Milan got the chance to rest some key players and still delivered a win. The day was made sweeter as Inter Milan slipped up against Sassuolo so we sit in joint top spot with our crosstown rivals.
