Mike Maignan

This game will have an intense midfield battle but ultimately it falls on Maignan’s shoulders to keep us in it. We have a weak defence and they have an attack on fire. The French shot stopper has a big task to keep Martinez at bay but also to keep out any scrappy attempts from Thuram. Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan and Barella will be firing long shots at him and he needs to have a masterful performance because an early goal will cause the team to crumble and we need confidence to get anything out of this game.

Hakan Calhanoglu

As much as I dislike him, he has become one of Inter’s better players and always turns up with a bone to pick in the derby. Let’s see how he manages against Loftus-Cheek after causing issues for Kessie, Bennacer and Tonali in the past two years. He has a wicked shot and slammed the crossbar last year. He needs to be kept quiet and out of the game for the fans and to ensure we do not get caught out with a long shot.

Rafael Leao

Leao has bounced back in the Roma game after a slow start. He looked strong in the international break and he often steps up in the derby but it is essential this evening. Leao needs to score or create as we cannot end 2023 without a goal against Inter. Leao needs to be a leader and help the side manage the game as he knows the pressure of the derby and knows how to play a winning role in the fixture.
