AC Milan have officially announced on their website the departure of goalkeeper Devis Vasquez on loan to Sheffield Wednesday in the English Championship. The Colombian will get some experience in the second tier of football in England following a pretty uneventful six months at Milan where he was brought in as a surprise to be the emergency back up but ended up playing exactly zero minutes.
It is unclear if Stefano Pioli rated Ciprian Tatarusanu as a better keeper than Vasquez or there was a lack of desire to take a chance on him. Regardless, this will be one of the most pointless transfers in recent memory where Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara just failed to make the right call in the January 2023 window where reinforcements were needed.
Vasquez’s highlight at Milan was being front and centre as Zlatan Ibrahimovic announced his retirement.
Matteo Moretto is reporting that it is just a one year dry loan with no option to buy. The keeper is only 25 years old so may end up impressing and getting a decent transfer next summer.
