AC Milan have officially announced on their website the signing of American midfielder Yunus Musah from Valencia on a permanent deal. He will sign a five year contract with the Rossoneri keeping him at the club until the summer of 2028. Valencia in their official statement he has been purchased or 20 million euros plus add ons.
Musah is the eighth signing of the summer and the second American national team player to be brought in by new owners RedBird Capital in their first active market since purchasing the club from Elliott Management.
The former Arsenal FC youth product moved to Spain in 2019 where he spent a season with their youth team before getting his senior debut. He has since made 108 appearances for Valencia scoring 5 goals and providing 3 assists.
The 20 year old has a lot of potential and lots of upside given his age. It is unclear if he will be a starter this season as this will depend on the formation - yes in a 4-3-3 but not in the 4-2-3-1. Milan legend Gennaro Gattuso managed Musah for about seven months last season and was fond of the midfielder. He has made comparisons between Musah and former midfielder Franck Kessie this summer to Corriere dello Sport.
He has been capped by the USMNT 24 times but played for England between the U15 and U18 stages of his youth career. He was a fixture for the United States at the World Cup in Qatar last year. Th midfielder holds an a Italian passport in addition to his American one hence will not occupy a non-EU spot.
He will wear the shirt number 80 for Milan.
