The Coppa Italia bracket for the 2023/24 season has been released. AC Milan have not lifted the trophy since 2003 and were knocked out in their first round last season in an embarassing 1-0 loss to Torino in extra time. The Rossoneri have made it to the finals twice in the past decade but lost both times to Juventus in 2016 and 2018. Inter Milan have won the cup twice in a row now.

Milan will face one off Cagliari, Palermo, Udinese, LR Vicenza or Catanzaro in the round of 16. Milan’s likely opponent in the quarter finals will be Atalanta. The semi finals would potentially set up a derby della Madonnina against Inter Milan or feature an upset if Fiorentina, Bologna, Parma, Como, Lecce, Bari or Hellas Verona step up.

It has been two decades since we lifted the trophy and we ought to take it seriously as a piece of silverware is always uplifting for the club and the fans. Milan have a manageable draw but last year’s was certainly easier. Stefano Pioli now has some decent squad depth and should use it to make it all the way to the final this season.
