AC Milan are set to have a difficult two months to kick off 2022 as the Africa Cup of Nations which is being hosted by Cameroon will see Stefano Pioli miss out on two key players and one depth player in an important run for the league. Milan face AS Roma and Juventus in January as well as the Coppa Italia opener while in February the side is scheduled to take on Inter Milan on the same day as the AFCON final.
Franck Kessie has been called up for Ivory Coast, Ismael Bennacer for Algeria and Fode Ballo-Toure for Senegal; each of the three teams are contenders to go all the way in the tournament.
The tournament kicks off on the 9th of January but most players have already begun to join the national teams training camps hence the three players will miss the tie with Roma on Thursday. The final is on the 6th of February hence if any of the three sides go far, Milan may miss out on the players for the entirety of January and February as they will need some rest too.
