AC Milan requested the FIGC to open an investigation against Lazio for the racist chants aimed at midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko during the third round of Serie A as we reported here. The matter has escalated and is currently under investigation using TV footage and documentation held by the police. The likely outcome is a fine for Lazio and potentially a ban for the fans as this is a sad re-occurrence for their club and a problem that does not seem to be dealt with strictly enough by the club.
As per the official statement on the FIGC website,
“The Federal Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation against SS Lazio following the complaint filed by AC Milan for discriminatory chants by the Biancocelesti fans against the player Bakayoko during the Milan-Lazio match on 12 September last. The Prosecutor’s Office is acquiring the videos of the match and the documents held by the Milan Police Headquarters.”
