As previously reported by MilanNews.it it was expected that about 500 fans would be present in the away stand at Anfield to mark the return of AC Milan to the UEFA Champions League after about seven years out of the competition. The bulk of the fans came from the Milan Club London and Milan Club Dublin for the game creating an exceptional atmosphere at the stadium in a noisy affair. The report notes that there were a number of fans travelling from Italy as well as some members of the Curva Sud but their numbers were limited given all the restrictions around COVID-19 in the UK and returning home.
Milan played an exceptionally difficult game but put on a inspiring performance for the on looking fans in the 3-2 loss. Brahim Diaz and Ante Rebic scored while Mike Maignan saved a penalty as Stefano Pioli’s men tasted UCL football for the first time.
