AC Milan debuted at the San Siro yesterday night for the 2021/22 Serie A season. Milan returned with fans in the stadium and it was a sight for sore eyes. The players delivered a fiery performance worthy of the occasion and came away with a 4-1 victory over Cagliari.
All four goals came in the first half. Sandro Tonali started it off with a brilliant curled free kick on the left edge of the box beating the keeper at the near post. His first goal for the club and another demonstration of his quality. Cagliari got even shortly after a mistake deflected the ball into the path of Joao Pedro who set up a cross for Deiola at the back post to head past Mike Maignan. Our second goal was given to Rafael Leao after he whacked a shot into the box which clipped Brahim Diaz on the backside and deflected into the back of the net. Milan ran riot for the rest of the first half as Diaz marched down the pitch and beautifully set up Olivier Giroud to curl past the keeper for his first competitive goal for Milan. Milan won a penalty after Diaz forced a Kevin Strootman hand ball on the line of the box. Giroud stepped up and buried the ball into the back of the net for 4-1.
The second half was quiet but we did get see cameos from Alessandro Florenzi and Daniel Maldini amongst others. Milan go into the international break with 2 win in 2 games.
