AC Milan Women took on FC Zurich in the Round 1 of the qualification to the UEFA Women’s Champions League. This was a historic match for the side as the Rossonere participated in the tournament for the first time in their history. Milan secured a 2-1 win and secure their place in the finals of round 1. Maurizio Ganz stuck to many of his reliable players from last season as Fusetti, Bergamaschi, Giacinti, Jane, Agard and Boquete returned. New signings Giuliani, Andersen, Arnadottir, Adami and Thomas made their competitive debuts in the knock out game.

Milan started the game off well and threatened Zurich by dominating possession and breaking through the lines. Boquete hit the crossbar from a free kick in the first half. Just a few minutes later, the captain Giacinti bagged her first goal of the season with a strong finish from inside the box connecting with the square ball from Andersen. Milan struck the post again in the second half as Giacinti’s shot skimmed the top of the post after she met a pull back from Arnadottir. The Rossonere then conceded a silly goal in the 68th minute when Agard failed to properly clear the ball teeing up a shot for the opponent to lob over Giuliani. Milan pipped ahead again in the 82 nd minute as Grimshaw made a good impact off the bench playing in Giacinti with a through ball for the captain to slot home and win the game.
