Official: Barcelona Youngster Laia Codina Signs For AC Milan Women

Once again, we must reiterate how awesome this is.

AC Milan

AC Milan have officially confirmed that Laia Codina has signed for the Women’s team. The defender comes to the team on loan from her parent club, FC Barcelona.

From the team themselves:

AC Milan is delighted to announce it has reached an agreement with FC Barcelona for the signing of Laia Codina Panedas for the 2021/22 season. The Spanish defender, who won the UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship in 2018 with the Spanish U19 national team, will wear the number 5 jersey.

Codina’s signing is quite the coup for the Rossonere. The defender is considered the crown jewel of the La Maisa academy and has played matches at the highest level, and now a statement has confirmed her arrival.

Though she wasn’t a starter, Laia played a pivotal part in helping the Barcelona Women win their first-ever treble last season. She has played a total of 45 matches for the team and has scored a single goal for them.

Her signing is also proof that Milan can attract talented players who are entering their prime. This bodes well for the team in the future as it means that they’ll be able to sign players of a similar caliber. The league also benefits from this signing, as it means that other talented players will choose to come to Serie A Femminile in the future.

The defender is expected to play a big role for Milan and to help them contest for titles this season. You’ll be able to watch Laia play for the Rossonere AC Milan app, the team’s Dailymotion page, and on the official site for the Italian television channel, La7.

More will be written about the defender in the upcoming days.

But for now, we’ll just say: Benvinguda Laia!
