Sky Italia via MilanLive.it are reporting that AC Milan are set for a number of formation changes in their pre season as Stefano Pioli works to make the most of his available players. Pioli has succeeded with a 4-2-3-1 over the previous season but has lost his trequartista and will miss his starting defensive midfield duo for spells across the season. The side also has added strikers and wing backs hence the 3-5-2 is a viable option.
The 4-4-2 has been used a number of times in training and often in the transition play during the games. The 4-3-3 which has used for a number of years under Mihajlovic, Montella and Gattuso has been tested but will probably gives the fans some nerves. This may change since Brahim Diaz joined the group this week and he can occupy that no. 10 role.
Pioli is reportedly working on multiple formations for the season to make the team more versatile and adaptable to injuries and suspensions. The lack of back up plans last season was a big reason for the drop off from 1st place to 5th place in the second half before he managed to steady the ship to finish 2nd.
