If AC Milan wins this match, then they’ll be one step closer to qualifying for the Champions League.
Here’s a brief background of what you need to know before the match.
Put on your best ‘Hahvad’ accent and channel Will Hunting here, because we’re gonna do some match.
Milan can win qualify for the Champions League if:
If Milan wins against Fiorentina (and get 52 points), while Sassuolo loses or draws against Pink Bari, then the Neroverde will have either 43 or 44 points respectively. That would put them out of contention for Europe, given that after this, there will be two games left in the season.
However, if Milan draws against Fiorentina, they could still qualify, but only if Sassuolo were to lose. That would put the Rossonere’s seasonal point tally at 50, while Sassuolo will have 43.
And if you find all of that math confusing, then listen to this awesome song by Mos Def to calm you down.
Milan and Fiorentina will enter the match in starkly contrasting forms. The Rossonere have been in high spirits, as they’ve won sixteen out of nineteen of their matches, as they have only lost two and tied one.
They dropped points in their last match against Roma. However, given how well the Giallorosse have played lately, the draw should be viewed in a positive light. To date, Milan are still the only team in Serie A Femminile that has never lost to Roma.
Fiorentina have not been so fortunate. To date, they’ve only won nine of their matches this season, and have tied two and lost eight. One of those losses was against Roma. They have also lost to Milan.
The first meeting between the two teams this season ended 1-0 in favor of the Rossonere. The last time these two played was in the semifinals of the Super Coppa Femminile. Fiorentina were the 2-1 victors of the game after Milan put on a rather disjointed performance. The Rossonere gave the match away due to bad game management and the Viola were the fortunate recipients of this.
They’ll be looking to right those past wrongs and to win this match.
If Milan are to win this game, then they’ll have to do so by playing smartly. They’ll also have to keep up their concentration for a full 90+ minutes and not let themselves get caught out in counterattacks.
And if they do so, then they’ll be one step closer to playing in next season’s Champions League.
