AC Milan took on Filippo Inzaghi’s Benevento at the San Siro last night as Stefano Pioli welcomed back Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alessio Romagnoli from lengthy injuries. Milan took charge of the game early on and then coasted to a 2-0 victory that puts them on at least level terms with Juventus heading into their crunch tie next week. Milan opened the scoring from a brilliant move where Hakan Calhanoglu, Alexis Saelemaekers and Franck Kessie combined to bamboozle Benevento’s defence with a one-two and a fake step-over to allow Calhanoglu a clear run on goal where he buried the ball into the back of the net.

The game was pretty open for large spells as both teams ran hard at each other and tested the keepers at both ends. Ibrahimovic didn’t manage to get a goal but had at least four good chances but was stopped by the incredible performance of Lorenzo Montipo in goal. Ibrahimovic did manage to get the better of Montipo on one account as his hard shot forced the keeper to save it but parry it into the path of Theo Hernandez who easily put away the rebound to make it 2-0.

All in all a good performance with some key takeaways, a clean sheet on Romagnoli’s return at CB, a home win on Romagnoli’s return as captain, a yellow for Samu Castillejo ruling him out of the Juve game and good run of form for Calhanoglu.
