AC Milan Bottle Opportunity To Clinch Champions League Place In 0-0 Draw With Cagliari

Milan leave it to the last day against our toughest opponents now.

AC Milan had a huge opportunity to clinch their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League against Cagliari who were placed just above the relegation and completely collapsed. The Rossoneri provided a thoroughly underwhelming performance just a week their huge win againct Torino away from home. The terrible performances at the San Siro continue as the Rossoneri drew 0-0 with Cagliari. Milan now head into the final round of Serie A fixtures against Atalanta needing a victory to finally get back into the UCL.

Stefano Pioli was probably most at fault for the poor results yesterday as his substitutions and game plan took the steam out of the attack. He always struggles against teams that sit back and has not adapted to this. Moreover, he withdrew the players who were creating the few chances we saw and replaced them with players who contribute absolutely nothing going forward when we desperately needed a goal.

Saelemaekers off for Leao was strange as the Belgian was having a good game and Leao should have been saved for later on to replace Calhanoglu on the left.

Diaz for Castillejo was a criminal move. Castillejo did get into good spaces but fluffed all his opportunities whilst Diaz has been decisive in recent games.

Calabria going off is never helpful for us. Dalot does better on the left than the right in reality. Theo had an off day and should’ve been the one taken off.

Bennacer off for Meite was such a poor call. Leave him on as he is driving play forward or bring on Tonali who always brings intensity. Meite first touch was almost a huge mistake.

Mandzukic for Calhanoglu was silly as all the attacking midfielders were withdrawn at this point so throwing on a striker to play alongside Rebic and Leao means no one is delivering the ball into the box.

An awful display and one that will likely wreck the season for us unless the squad pulls off a miracle in Bergamo where Pioli is yet to win since taking over.

Anyway as always, Forza Milan!
