Milan Player Ratings: Milan 0-0 Cagliari

Milan squander their chance to make Champions League

Usually, I give a recap of both the first and second half but in this match I really can't because absolutely NOTHING happened the whole match and AC Milan looked like a joke. After beating Juventus and smashing Torino, Milan had the golden opportunity to clinch a Champions League spot against Cagliari. Sadly Milan failed to show up at all and looked like they didn't even want to qualify for Champions League. A performance like that so close to the end of the season is disrespectful to the club and the fan base. Nobody showed up on the team except for Gigio and Cagliari was actually the team with the more clear cut chances. Now Milan have to beat Atalanta in order to secure a spot in Champions League. Not to be pessimistic but Milan beating Atlanta is a long shot and it really does seem like Milan will miss out on the Champions League for another year. If Milan do fail to capitalize then this will be one of the biggest collapses in recent memory. In his press conference, Pioli said that not making Champions League would not be a failure but I have to disagree and that mentality is a massive problem for the club.

Gianluigi Donnarumma: The only real player to show up in this match. Without him it would have been even worse. 7/10

Davide Calabria: Can’t really blame Davide much for this match. He was fine on defence and attempted to swing in some crosses to try and muster some attacking chances. 6/10

Simon Kjaer: Kjaer was a bit messy against Cagliari but it didn't matter because Gigio was there to save the day. Hopefully Kjaer doesn't make these mistakes against Atalanta. 5.5/10

Fikayo Tomori: Fik was fine in this match. He didn't make the mistakes that Kjaer made and covered for Theo for the majority of the match. 6/10

Theo Hernandez: Theo was not good in this match. He made runs going froward but forgot the ball most of the time. Defensively he was a mess and couldn't even make a tackle. 3.5/10

Franck Kessie: I thought Kessie was a bit sloppy on the ball. Aside from that he did his job but he could have jumped into the final third a bit more as Milan really lacked ideas. 5.5/10

Ismael Bennacer: Not too sure why Bennacer was taken off as I thought he was doing fine. He controlled the ball in the middle of the pitch but couldn't find many passes that drove the attack forward. 5.5/10

Alexis Saelemaekers: I don't understand why Alexis was taken off. He was playing better than Brahim and actually had a shot on goal, can’t say that for the rest of the team. 5.5/10

Hakan Calhanoglu: This match summed up Hakan for Milan. Terrible distribution, not being able to dribble and hitting free kicks right into the wall. A mess to watch. 2/10

Brahim Diaz: Brahim has been making a difference in matches but for this one he reverted back to the Brahim of old. He would dribble and lose the ball every time. 3.5/10

Ante Rebic: Ante giveth and Ante taketh. He has had two great matches then today he was useless in the final third. 4/10

Rafael Leao: Leao actually came in and tried to create some offence but he did have some questionable moments ducking under crosses and not jumping either. 6/10

Samu Castillejo: I don't think I need to comment on his performance. 2/10

Diogo Dalot: Dalot came on and was fine, he actually showed some fight for the badge. 5.5/10

Souahliho Meite: I have no clue why Pioli decided to bring on Meite. Right when he came on he lost the ball immediately and he didn't bring much of anything else to the team. 4.5/10

Mario Mandzukic: N/A
