La Gazzetta dello Sport via Sempre Milan slightly prematurely are discussing AC Milan’s future in the Champions League if they win against Cagliari this weekend. The outlet are reporting that the first item on the agenda is the manager position. Stefano Pioli came to the helm 7 games into the 2019/20 season after Marco Giampaolo’s collapse and the former Fiorentina, Inter Milan and Lazio manager took Milan on one of the best runs of form over the past decade.
Pioli managed to take Milan from the bottom half of the table to a Europa league place last season, he went on an unbeaten run from March 2020 to November 2020, he kept Milan in 1st place for a big chunk of this season and is now on the precipice of qualifying for the Champions League.
Pioli’s current contract runs until the end of 2022 and the report notes that Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara will look to renew his deal until 2024 given the positive results.
