Well it has surely been an interesting week in the world of football. With all the drama about the Super League and UEFA battling it out, AC Milan played Sassuolo on Wednesday night. The starting eleven for this match was a bit cobbled together as just one day before some Milan players showed up on the injury report. However, Milan continued on and played with what seemed liked a 4-4-2 formation. This match against Sassuolo didn't start off with firework as the reverse fixture did. This was more of a calm beginning with both teams not creating much. In the 20th minute that all changed with a beautiful strike from Hakan Calhanoglu which was made possible from an overlapping run by Diogo Dalot. After that goal as per usual Milan sat back a bit and Sassuolo took advantage by creating some scoring chances. Thankfully they weren't able to capitalize on any of their chances and at the half Milan remained in the lead by 1 goal.

The second half was very different as it was extremely open for both sides. For a lot of the second half Milan looked very much in control of the open game as they created a lot of chances but couldn't capitalize. Then disaster struck and Sassuolo attacked Milan with all their might. Sassuolo scored two rapid goals to shock Milan. The team completely collapsed and everyone is to blame, at this rate we will be fighting for our Champions League lives. A match like this cannot happen during a top 4 race, it is disrespectful to the fan base to put on a performance like that.

STARTING LINE-UP

Gianluigi Donnarumma: Not that bad of a match for Gigio, definitely better than the previous ones. Can’t really blame him for the goals against. 6/10

Davide Calabria: I was surprised that Pioli elected to start Calabria his first game back from injury. He didn't look too bad but at times showed a bit of his rust. 5.5/10

Simon Kjaer: Kjaer was mediocre for me. He had a few good moments but on the other hand there were bad defensive moments. 5.5/10

Fikayo Tomori: Not a great match for Tomori. He made another mistake in this match that led to a Sassuolo goal. This is a few games now where Fik is at fault. 5/10

Diogo Dalot: Dalot was a lot more impressive on the left than what he had been on the right. He provided a nice assist and was fairly decent defensively. 6/10

Franck Kessie: Franck was solid in this match like usual. Can’t complain much about his performance as he was disruptive in the midfield. 6/10

Soualiho Meite: Like others Meite had a up and down match. At times he was winning the ball in the midfield and looked great. Other times he was doing back heels in his own half which was extremely questionable. 5.5/10

Alexis Saelemaekers: Alexis looked lively and created some decent chances but he wasn't clinical and in this match he needed to be clinical and decisive in the final third. 5.5/10

Hakan Calhanoglu: Hakan was the best offensive player for Milan. He was the engine that was running the team. He even scored a beautiful goal, but sadly that didn't matter in the end. 6/10

Ante Rebic: Ante basically didn't do anything this match and he was a non factor. I could really say this for both Leao and Rebic. Ante either scores an amazing goal or vanishes from the face of the earth. 5/10

Rafael Leao: Leao continues to let me down. He has ALL the talent in the world with no fight! He doesn't have the killer mentality that Milan desperately need right now. Leao needs to get his head right. 5/10

SUBSTITUTES

Rade Krunic: He came in for Hakan and the attack died out. Hakan was the key man in the attack for this mach but bringing in Rade halted any momentum. 5/10

Maria Mandzukic: Basically came in and ran around. Didn't contribute much of anything to the squad. 5/10

Samu Castillejo: N/A

Brahim Diaz: N/A

Pierre Kalulu: N/A

Manager

Stefano Pioli: I love Pioli but the attack is getting stale and the defence is getting torn up. He has to do something to light the fire under the ass of his players. His substitutions also didn't help the situation. 5.5/10
