A tough game but one where we put in the work but lacked the finishing touch.

AC Milan got knocked out of the Europa League after a 1-0 loss to Manchester United at the San Siro last night. Milan played well and dominated the first half but lacked the attacking power needed to the ball into the back of the net. Milan bow out with two tight games with the tie ending 2-1 on aggregate. Here are the player ratings for the game:

STARTING LINE-UP

Gianluigi Donnarumma: Nothing he could do on the goal and barely had any work outside of that. Shame he couldn’t keep a clean sheet for this one. 6/10

Pierre Kalulu: Kalulu actually did very well holding off United attacks thrughout the first half and distributed the ball well in attack. He struggled a bit when Pogba came on as he was beaten pressured heavily but overall held up well. 6/10

Simon Kjaer: He was strong and clam in the heart of the defence. He held up well despite the speed boasted by United’s attack. Still at the top of the chain at Milan. 6.5/10

Fikayo Tomori: Very solid performance from Tomori capped by his beautiful tackle of James in the box. He shows maturity and this is accented by his speed and technical ability. 7/10

Theo Hernandez: Game after game, he shows that is losing touch with how to use his talent. He keeps running and hitting a wall instead of passing. He keeps being caught out of position allowing attacks against us such as the one leading to the goal when he allowed Fred the space. Poor displays from him. 5/10

Soualiho Meite: Meite started this game well and looked a much better player than a few weeks ago. The only problem is his decision making at times as he seems to gravitate toward the difficult option hence he was directly responsible for gifting Pogba the goal scoring opportunity. 5.5/10

Franck Kessie: Kessie keeps showing why he is so impressive. He kept Fernandes quiet whilst simultaneously driving our attack. He was dominant throughout and even gave Pogba a reminder that he was the strongest midfielder on the pitch. He is insanely dominant in the midfield but needs support. 7/10

Alexis Saelemaekers: Saelemaekers was one of our best players last night. His dribbling looked much better as he kept hold of the ball and drove forward. He had a crack at goal and took it a few times. Big improvement. 6.5/10

Rade Krunic: A pretty average performance from him. Did his job going forward but missed a sitter that could have changed the outcome of this game. He needs to be better at hitting the target if he is to live up to the hype from the Verona game. 6/10

Samu Castillejo: Contrary to popular belief, Castillejo did his job yesterday. He held up the ball and supported the attacks going forward, he was decent but did not deliver enough in the box. 6/10

SUBSTITUTES

Diogo Dalot: Dalot was smothered by Pogba and easily beaten by Shaw throughout the second half. He struggled going forward and did not offer enough to support the attack. 5.5/10

Zlatan Ibrahimovic: Ibrahimovic came so close to scoring bar a brilliant save from Henderson. He tried to create space but just did not have enough attack minded players alongside him to create something. 6.5/10

Brahim Diaz: Diaz was Diaz. He created some spaces and tried to force passes kicking off well but was then bullied by McTominay and pushed further out. If he exchanged the ball slightly better with Ibrahimovic, we could’ve had a good chance or two. 5.5/10

MANAGER

Stefano Pioli: The game plan nearly worked in the first half time if any of the chances had gone in but he was in a difficult spot to begin with with the attack missing. Question must be asked of the medical team at the is point because the reoccurring injuries have vastly increased and could derail this season. 6/10
