The transfer window in Italy closed earlier this week and AC Milan were one of the most active teams in the country. We had three arrivals and four departures. Here's our grades for the transfers in:
Soualiho Meite (Central Midfield)
Salary: €1.01 million gross
Deal: 6 month loan with option to buy for €8 million
Club: Torino
Meite was always an interesting move because it made sense at the minute it was announced due to our injuries in the middle of the park but now leaves us with too many midfielders resulting in other players being excluded such as Hauge from the UEL squad. The player has the potential to be a solid piece of the rotation but needs to be eased in yet not take away from Tonali’s playing time - as he considered to be one for the future.
GRADE: C
Mario Mandzukic (Striker)
Salary: €3.33 million gross
Deal: 6 Month loan with option to extend
Club: None (Al Duhail)
This was a deal I wanted last summer. Mandzukic is the type of player you hate when he’s an opponent but love when he is yours. As Ibrahimovic said, he is scary for defences and is a constant threat. He adds a winning mentality having won multiple Scudetti with Juventus and could add that little bit of intensity and fire that the attack has slightly missed. This move also reminds me of Van Bommel joining in January 2010 and I hope he can have a similar impact.
GRADE: A-
Fikayo Tomori (Centre Back)
Salary: €0.55 million gross
Deal: 6 month loan with option to buy for €28 million
Club: Chelsea
This is an intriguing move as it may work well for the future given Kjaer’s age. If Tomori adjusts to Serie A and partners well with Romagnoli, he could be a solid defender for us for at least 5+ years. He has the pace that is sorely missed in Serie A defences and is technically good which is a huge bonus. Also, for the moment he provides some much needed cover. Only down side is that this will probably limit Kalulu’s play time and slow down his development.
