In a crucial match Milan don't show up

This one of the biggest derbies in recent memory as both Milan clubs look to be turning the page and performing better. The hype for this match was real and deservedly so but given AC Milan’s recent form this could be a worrying match for Milan fans. 5 minutes in Milan were caught asleep as Inter Milan countered leading to a Martinez header. From that point on Milan looked lost and lacked fight. The first half saw Inter continue to attack and create chances while Milan were grasping at straws trying to enter Inter’s box. The first 45 minutes were a warning sign to come but nonetheless Inter were only up 1-0.

The start of the second half Milan showed life and Ibra had a few chances but Handanovic was making miracle saves the keep the Inter lead. Then in the 57th minute against the run of play Inter again countered and again scored bringing their lead up to 2 goals. After that Milan were dead in the water and looked like they got their souls sucked out of them. Again in the 66th minute Inter struck again upping their lead to 3 goals. After all the hype of this Milan derby, Milan didn't show up and it seems their grasp on first place is completely gone. The season isn't over but the fight for Champions League football will be tough.

STARTING LINE-UP

Gianluigi Donnarumma: Gigio was fine as two of their goals he had no chances. He could have done better on the third goal but at that point Milan were finished anyway. 5.7/10

Davide Calabria: Calabria was not good in this match as he struggled to handle Ivan Perisic. When Perisic is finding space and getting by you it is clearly not your day and that was constantly happening to Calabria. 4/10

Simon Kjaer: What a stinker from Kjaer. I’m not sure if he is being rushed back from injury but he looks so slow on the pitch. He continuously got beat by Martinez off the dribble and he was part of the blame for the first Inter goal. 4/10

Alessio Romagnoli: It is clear now that Romagnoli just isn't good right now and I think his pace is to blame. Countless times Romagnoli got beat by any Inter player and he looked absolutely lethargic. If a big offer comes for Alessio the club might want to look into selling. 4/10

Theo Hernandez: Theo didn't have a terrible match and had a good battle with Hakimi. Unlike previous matches Theo competed with Hakimi and got the best of him on a few occasions. 5.5/10

Sandro Tonali: Sandro showed some decent signs in this match. Obviously not as good as Bennacer but I don't think Tonali was a big problem and showed some glimpses in attack. 5/10

Franck Kessie: Kessie didn't stand out at all. Again I can't blame much on the midfield because basically everyone was lacking. 5/10

Alexis Saelemaekers: Did anyone see Saelemaekers on the pitch? Cause I didn't. 4/10

Hakan Calhanoglu: Another ghost of the match, didn't create anything until the end and was basically non existent for the majority of the match. 4/10

Ante Rebic: Yes, the work rate of Rebic was great but he didn't create anything offensively and as a winger that can't happen. Since returning from Covid Rebic has looked lost and in this match it affected Milan as every-time he touched the ball it was lost. 4/10

Zlatan Ibrahimovic: Zlatan had a few golden chances but couldn't capitalize. He was fine in this match but at times he was isolated and the team struggled to get the ball to him. If Ibra scored his chances maybe the game would have been a bit closer. 5.5/10

SUBSTITUTES

Soualiho Meite: I don't understand why Meite came on for Tonali. He came on and like others was a ghost. 4/10

Rafael Leao: Leao came on far too late and because of that he didn't have any impact on the match. 5/10

Samu Castillejo: Once Samu came on the match was conceded. 4.5/10
