AC Milan took on Crvena Zvezda away from home in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League round of 32 fixture. Milan travelled to Belgrade as Stefano Pioli heavily rotated the side ahead of the derby against Inter Milan this weekend. Milan went into a tough and physical team against another side who pressured constantly and stifled Pioli's plans. Milan looked devoid of ideas but somehow managed to force an own goal in the first goal from a Samu Castillejo cross. Ismael Bennacer picked up an injury and had to be withdrawn from the game prior to half time. In the second half, Milan started well but the captain Alessio Romagnoli gave away a silly penalty allowing Crvena Zvezda back into the tie with a handball. Milan fought back and won their own penalty from Theo Hernandez's deep run. Hernandez took the penalty and slotted home. Milan did well to control the game thereafter but fell asleep at the last minute of additional time as they conceded from a corner. Milan got 2 away goals which is great but also have an injury, no boost in confidence and now have to recover in time for the derby.
