After a very poor performance in the league against Spezia, AC Milan turned their attention to the Europa League round of 32. This match saw Milan rotate the squad a lot which gave starts to Pierre Kalulu and Fikayo Tomori. Milan started off the match the right way as they scored just 6 minutes in but Samu Castillejo was just a hair offside. Six minutes after that Milan again put the ball in the back of the net with a Theo Hernandez tap in. Again, Var intervened and disallowed the goal because of an apparent handball. The 42nd minute saw the first goal of the match when Samu Castillejo crossed it in and it hit off a defender and slid past the keeper for an own goal. At the half Milan were up 1-0.

The start of the second half wasn't kind to Milan because Alessio Romagnoli was called for a handball inside the box that led to a penalty. The Red Star player stepped up and scored to equalize. Milan really lacked quality in the second half but they caught a break in the 61st minute when they were given a penalty. Surprisingly Theo stepped up and scored to bring Milan up a goal. Milan really turned it down a notch after that goal and it seemed that they wanted to wait it out and win. In the very last minute of the match, Red Star got a penalty and headed it in the back of the net to level the match.

STARTING LINE-UP

Gianluigi Donnarumma: Gigio was good like usual. He took command of his area and organized the defence well. He has really grown as a leader. 6.5/10

Pierre Kalulu: I think it is clear that Kalulu should be the backup right back. His pace and aggressiveness is something that Dalot doesn't bring. The potential for Kalulu is there. 6/10

Fikayo Tomori: Tomori continues to impress me. His pace is evident and in this match he was very good in the air. Buying him is the right thing to do. 6.5/10

Alessio Romagnoli: I can't say that i’m happy with Alessio’s performance. He has been really disappointing in the past few games. A reader said a similar thing last week, has Romagnoli reached his potential? 5.5/10

Theo Hernandez: Theo was good today and fairly solid. He made some really nice runs going forward and had a few chances to score. His penalty was also nicely taken. 6/10

Ismael Bennacer: Ismael didn't impress me much when he was playing and maybe that is because he isn't used to match speed yet. More games would help with that but now he sustained another injury and at the time of writing we don't know how long he’ll be out. 5.7/10

Soualiho Meite: Meite was ok in this match. He had moments of ups and downs. At times he looked great protecting and moving the ball then he fell asleep during the last corner and gave up the header. 5.7/10

Samu Castillejo: At this point it is clear to see that Samu just isn't gonna cut it. He continually plays the same type of match. Runs hard and is wasteful. 5.5/10

Rade Krunic: I actually don't think Rade played that horrible of a match and he actually looked like he fit in the squad. Yes, not everything from him was perfect but he was a lot better than what he has been. 6/10

Ante Rebic: Ante didn't do anything really special in this match but it did seem like he was making positive strides. 6/10

Mario Mandzukic: Mandzukic wasn't on the ball much and didn't get many scoring opportunities. But I do think that his runs were good in this match. Another thing I can appreciate is that he hustles. 6/10

SUBSTITUTES

Sandro Tonali: Sandro returned to action and impressed me in this match. He was good defensively and he made the run and pass that led to the Theo penalty. 6.5/10

Rafael Leao: Leao came on in the second half and basically did nothing. In this match he didn't bring anything and didn't really hustle hard, at times he was getting out hustled by Mandzukic. 5.5/10

Diogo Dalot: Dalot again didn't impress much. Usually he is a bit better on the left side but in the limited minutes in this match he was subpar. 5.5/10

Hakan Calhanoglu: N/A
