AC Milan and Hellas Verona face off at the San Siro tonight as Stefano Pioli misses out of a number of starters due to injuries and illnesses. The match should be a challenge to test the depth options of Milan. Here are some key battles to look out for:

Key Battles

Goalkeeper vs Striker

Ciprian Tatarusanu vs Giovanni Simeone

A new test for the depth goalkeeper who has barely featured since joining the club last season. He will be facing an in form Simeone who will be testing the keeper with his dynamic presence in the box and good finishing. The keeper will need to be able to command the defence na dkeep his unit tight, a strong start will be critical given the gaps we have in attack.

Striker vs Centre back

Olivier Giroud vs Koray Gunter

The return of Giroud is expected as Leao will likely be allowed to rest for the start of the game. The striker will go up against a very physical Gunter who can be beaten in the air but also with a bit of acceleration. Giroud will likely have a frustrating game up front without Diaz in the line up but we need to remain engaged and be clinical with the few chances he gets to take on Gunter and Montipo.

Central defensive midfielder vs Right attacking midfielder

Franck Kessie vs Antonin Barak

This will be the key match up from my perspective. Kessie will have a double role to stop barak from advancing and creating chances but will also need to be an attacking outlet for Milan considering the lack of firepower up front. Kessie will need to be physical in defence and quick in attack to kickstart the counters. The midfielder will need to be a leader and help the team get through this test.

Predictions

Simeone Winner

Giroud Winner

Kessie Winner
