AC Milan took on a tricky opponent in Benevento on the road and emerged with an important three points as Stefano Pioli's men beat the side for the first time in Milan's history. Franck Kessie scored the opener from the penalty spot marking Milan's first goal of 2021 after Ante Rebic was brought down in the box. Sandro Tonali showed his naivety again as he picked up a silly red card in the first half ahead of the crunch tie against Juventus this week, the midfielder is struggling to find his feet and needs to settle in a more composed role. Milan were put under pressure by Filippo Inzaghi's men and former Rossoneri striker Gianluca Lapadula kept ramming shots at Gianluigi Donnarumma. At the beginning of the second half, Rebic broke out and set up Rafael Leao with a wide through ball which caught out the keeper. Leao beat the keeper to the ball, pulled wide and regained his balance before letting of a magical improvised finish curling the ball over the keeper into the back of the net to make it 2-0. Milan conceded a penalty when Rade Krunic made a silly challenge in the box but the penalty went shot wide giving Donnarumma his first clean sheet of the year. Milan remain top as they look to face Juventus on Wednesday.
