AC Milan took on Inter Milan at the San Siro last night in the quarter finals of the Coppa Italia and lost 2-1 thanks to two set pieces gifted to the Nerrazzuri by two referees. Milan took the lead in the first half through an incredible finish from Zlatan Ibrahimovic who took a pinpoint shot from the edge of the box which pinged off the post into the back of the net. Late into the first half, Romelu Lukaku was brought down by Alessio Romagnoli and he went on to attempt to fight with pretty much everyone including his compatriot Alexis Saelemaekers resulting in a verbal exchange between Lukaku and Ibrahimovic for which both were booked. In the second half, Ibrahimovic was sent off for a ridiculuosly soft challenge which turned out not to be a foul as Kolarov kicked him in the oplay, VAR did not check this but alas what else can we expect whenever Milan plays. The referee proceeded to gift Inter a penalty after a silly challenge by Rafael Leao which Barella jumped over and made the most of. Lukaku nervously converted as he smashed the crossbar into the back of the net. Into the 10 minutes of additional time, Milan down to 10 men abd the referee went ahead to gift a free kick to Inter on the edge of the box where Lautaro Martinez kicked himself to win the set piece. Eriksen stepped up and delivered a fine free kick winning the game. Milan now have three losses in 2021 and two consecutive losses. Stefano Pioli needs his core back and needs to wake his side up otherwise the season can get ugly.
