AC Milan Manager Stefano Pioli Discusses Defenders Hinting At A Signing

A starter is definitely needed to supplement the unit.

Stefano Pioli spoke to MilanTV via MilanNews.it to reiterate the need for defensive reinforcements to the side. AC Milan will start their new campaign in ten days with the Europa League second qualifying round game against Shamrock Rovers. Pioli said,

“Right now we have Romagnoli, Musacchio and Conti out, we are stretched. I’m in constant contact with the technical area and the club. The market is still long, we will see what kind of opportunities will arise.”

As a result, Matteo Gabbia and Simon Kjaer become the likely starters for that fixture unless Alessio Romagnoli recovers in time. Gabriele Bellodi has received significant playing time in the friendly matches thus far but is unlikely to start in the Europa League for the moment.

Milan need to add a key signing to the defence who can compete with Kjaer for a starting spot as the season will be tough with three competitions and a congested schedule. Milan have been linked with Nikola Milenkovic from Fiorentina and Wesley Fofana from St Etienne heavily but others names will likely emerge if these deals prove too expensive.
