Pietro Mazzara is reporting that AC Milan striker has tested positive for the coronavirus and is in quarantine as a result. He is reporting that the player has not returned to Milanello since the start of the pre-season and will definitely not feature in the Europa League this week.
It is unclear if Leao is confirming or denying that he has contracted the virus on Twitter as he deleted a tweet that stated “Blame the quarantine.” Later on he seemed to concur here with a user who claimed that the tweet was misunderstood.
Leao is reportedly still recovering from an injury sustained toward the end of the previous season and thus will be missing for the first few games of the season. With Ante Rebic injured as well as Zlatan Ibrahimovic not at 100%, either youngster or new signings will likely start in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Paolo Maldini also confirmed this in an interview via MilanNews.it yesterday that, “We are ready, I hope so, it’s a game that scares us a lot, it’s a team that is doing well, first in their league, we have some problems, Rebic suspended, Leao injured. We play away from home in a knockout game, we are very worried.”
