Calcio Mercato are reporting that AC Milan are working hard to renew the contract of trequartista Hakan Calhanoglu as he is considered to be a core part of the group and a key player in Stefano Pioli's system. The Turkey international is now entering his fourth season with the club since joining in the summer of 2017. In that time, he has scored 23 goals and provided 36 assists in 129 appearances. Last season was his most prolific in front of goal.

This would be the next key renewal alongside that of Gianluigi Donnarumma after the negotiations for Simon Kjaer, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ante Rebic have been successfully concluded. Calhanoglu is currently on a salary of 2.5 million euros per year but is likely due for an upgrade which would fly in the face of Elliot's proposed salary cap. There is also talks of a potential release clause being added to the deal.

The current state of talks as per the report is that the player is open to renew likely for a period of 3 years.
