AC Milan vs Cagliari: H2H, Players To Watch and Prediction

Milan will look to end the season on a high against a revived Cagliari who shocked Juventus last time out. Looking forward to a shoot out of a game.

Head to Head

4 Wins. 1 Draw.

Cagliari 0 - 2 Milan

Milan 3 - 0 Cagliari

Cagliari 1 - 1 Milan

Cagliari 1 - 2 Milan

Milan 2 - 1 Cagliari

First things first, the new Puma ‘Crafted from Culture’ shirt debuts with the new Serie A standard font as well as the new ‘Emirates: Fly Better’ sponsor for the final home game of the season.

Milan are now unbeaten in 11 league games and have scored 60 goals in a single season for the first time since 2012/13. Milan also had three players scoring in double figures for the first time since 2012/13 with Rebic on 12, Calhanoglu on 11 and Ibrahimovic on 10 in all competitions. The latter two have an opportunity to be the club's top scorer if they score. Cagliari had been dreadful but pulled off a massive win against Juventus last time out and will have a lot of confidence with them. They have only scored 4 goals in their last 6 games though whilst Milan have scored 17 goals in their last 6. Radja Nainggolan is a doubt for the game as he has a calf problem whilst Marko Rog is suspended hence the heart of the midfield will be lacking two key players. Milan will be without Ante Rebic due to his suspension.

Top 3 Match-Ups

Hernandez and Calabria

This is a game for the wingers. Cagliari play with a back three hence there is a lot of space to be exploited down with wings for Hernandez and Calabria. They also attack a lot of the wings as their midfielders drift wide. They have looked very vulnerable against sides who can kiss the byline and cut back in or cross in. Thus Hernandez could get more chances to run at goal whilst Calabria could try and force runs down his wing. This also gives Leao and Saelemaekers more room to attempt to cut behind the centre backs and put pressure in the box.

Kessie-Bennacer vs Joao Pedro

Usually I would talk about Cagliari having one of the most physical midfields and one that is very difficult to manage which leads to messy games however they will not have Rog and will likely miss Nainggolan hence their midfield is weaker. The focus point will now be Joao Pedro who is having an incredible season and slots in as a trequartista or a second striker. The duo will need to keep with as far from goal as possible and shut down any long shot attempts. Donnarumma really needs a clean sheet to tie Musso and hopefully end the season with the most clean sheets in Serie A.

Walter Zenga vs Stefano Pioli

Most importantly, this game will be dictated by the philosophies and experiments of the two coaches especially from a Milan perspective. 6th place is locked up, 5th is out of reach. Rafael Leao finally gets a start but this is an opportunity for Pioli to the youngsters such as Maldini and Colombo a run. I will be upset if he subs on Lucas Biglia as I would rather see Brescianini or Krunic get the minutes. Both managers will likely go for an all out attacking game given there's nothing to lose. Likely to see lots of goals, hopefully it's not a drab affair.

Serie A Standings

Milan 6th 63 Points

Cagliari 13th 45 Points

Cagliari will enter this game with an ego high after slaying Juventus 2-0 and they were one of the best teams in the first half of the season thus Milan need to be careful not to fall asleep. Their attack is potent with Simeone on form and Joao Pedro having a stellar season. Both teams will miss a key players Rebic and Rog are out with suspensions. Expect an ultra attacking end to the season as both teams having nothing to lose this game.
