Kicker broke the news of Ralf Rangnick to AC Milan being off. The outlet also gave an early indication that Stefano Pioli would receive a new contract at the club whilst Rangnick will remain with Red Bull. The outlet notes that the issue came as Rangnick wanted to be both Technical Director and Manager while Milan wanted him to join as just the Technical Director.

Fabrizio Romano amongst other journalists confirms that Milan and Rangnick broke their existing agreement thus everything was on track until the fallout between Rangnick and Milan over the role he would play.

Bild interviewed Rangnick’s agent/consultant Marc Kosicke who gave the following updates:

“AC Milan and Ralf Rangnick have agreed that it is not the right time at the moment and that there is no momentum for working together. Because of this and taking into account the good development and the results under coach Pioli, it was jointly decided that Ralf will not take on any role at AC Milan”

MilanNews.it are reporting that the breakdown stemmed from Rangnick's refusal to stick to being Technical Director only as he wanted to takeover the manager role as well. Milan wanted to keep Pioli after his good displays.
