It wasn't the prettiest win but it secured Milan Europa League

In Milan’s previous match they absolutely thrashed Bologna 5-1. It would be a much tougher task against Sassuolo. Milan had a shaky start with Sassuolo dominating possession and having scoring chances. However, Milan were the first to strike with a header from Zlatan, assisted by Hakan Calhanoglu. At the same time Milan scored reports out of Germany stated that the Ralf Rangick deal to Milan has been called off. Sassuolo was next to strike after they were awarded a penalty kick and Caputo put it past Donnarumma. Milan responded well as Hakan Calhanoglu sent in another beautiful ball to Zlatan who dribbled past Consigli and buried it home. 45 minutes done, Milan were up 2-1 and now had a man advantage.

Milan were up a man and a goal, in theory Milan should have put the game away in the second half. However as the Ralf Rangick news came and many Milan fans, myself included, were shocked by the news. Milan still had a job to do and that was to finish the game, win the match and qualify for Europa League. Milan attacked in the second half and they had chances but they couldn't finish even against only 10 men. Thankfully the Milan team held strong and after 90 minutes they secured a victory with qualification for Europa League.

STARTING LINE-UP

Gigio Donnarumma: A good 200th appearance for Gigio. He couldn't stop the penalty but made stops when needed. 6.5/10

Andrea Conti: Conti was only on for a short time before he picked up an injury but he had a rough 10 minutes getting beaten on the right side. It is sad to see how injury prone Conti has been. 5.5/10

Simon Kjaer: When Alessio went out with an injury, Kjaer stepped up his game and had a few game saving tackles and blocks for the Milan win. 7/10

Alessio Romagnoli: Alessio sustained what potentially looked like a serious injury. Like the other players on the Milan defence he had a slow start. 6/10

Theo Hernandez: Theo didn't have an exceptional half. On both ends of the pitch he didn't look like himself and picked up a yellow card suspending him for the match against Atalanta. 5.7/10

Ismael Bennacer: Bennacer had a bit of a shaky start but he steadied the boat as the match went on. He handled the Sassuolo press well and almost scored his second goal for Milan. 7/10

Franck Kessie: Franck continues to be great and his ball distribution continues to get better. 7/10

Alexis Saelemaekers: Saelemaekers works hard but at times his touch just isn't there. A few times during the match his touch failed him and it halted the Milan attack. 6/10

Hakan Calhanoglu: Hakan was great today contributing two assists to Zlatan’s goals. 7.5/10

Ante Rebic: Rebic didn't have a exceptional game but he still preformed well and he was vital to Zlatan’s second goal as he drew the Sassuolo defence. 6.7/10

Zlatan Ibrahimovic: Zlatan performed well and scored two goal but he could have had his third if his touch didn't fail him. He had a few questionable plays but overall a good game. 6.9/10

SUBSTITUTES

Davide Calabria: Calabria came in early for an injured Conti and put in another solid performance. He will now have the next couple of games to prove why he should stay on the squad. 6.5/10

Matteo Gabbia: Gabbia was shaky at times but he was solid enough to hold off the Sassuolo attack. 5.9/10

Diego Laxalt: Laxalt was fine but Theo just adds so many other elements to this Milan team. 6/10

Jack Bonaventura: Jack didn't get many chances but him missing a sitter to finish off the game was upsetting. 6/10

Lucas Biglia: No major mistakes from Lucas and that is all he needs to do. Due to suspensions he might get the start against Atlanta. 5.7/10
