MilanNews.it are reporting that AC Milan are getting the short end of the stick with their new shirt sponsorship renewal deal with Emirates Airlines. The famous 'Fly Emirates’ logos can be seen on numerous notable shirts such as those of Real Madrid, Arsenal, Benfica and formerly PSG. The report indicates that Lyon is signing a deal with the UAE based airline starting the 2020-21 season in a deal with 20 million euros per year plus bonuses.

Milan are expected to receive a renewal deal significantly lower than their previous one signed in 2015 as a result of the poor visibility of the club due to the failure to qualify for the Champions League in the previous contract period. The previous deal signed by Milan was worth about 17 million euros per year as per ESPN. The new deal will feature a reduction in the contract value noting a huge commercial flop for the club. Milan may not be in the Champions League where Lyon have qualified 4 times since the 2015-16 season compared to Milan's 0 but the Rossoneri undoubtedly have a larger audience and global following. Milan also have a flourishing Women's team that should be a big selling point for the future given their likelihood to finish top three and play in the Women's Champions League. Questions must be asked of Ivan Gazidis if he is unable to secure a deal that brings in more rather than less.
