We take a look at the lesser discussed, but relevant options that AC Milan’s directors Maldini and Massara could pinpoint to maintain the team's push for Champions League football.

Goalkeeping options — Tatarusanu

Back up for Gianluigi Donnarumma was looked at earlier this year, and thought to be fixed with the addition of veteran 34-year-old Ciprian Tatarusanu. After brief but very poor performances seen so far, this could be a concerning area with a lack of any real options. A move here for a real backup could be crucial if anything were to happen to Milan’s young star. It is an unlikely move so soon after adding the backup but could be wise.

Right Back

Davide Calabria has been his old self, with passion and fire leading him to attack and defend wonderfully, with room for improvement of course. Andrea Conti and Diogo Dalot are currently the backups, but a decision needs to be made soon, with each on the edge of leaving due to loan or bad form. Dalot has been used quite frequently but there are still questions over if he is enough to push the team and competition further.

Attacking Center Midfeld

Hakan Calhanoglu has performed as a number 10 should with plenty of assists, tallying up 7 in 14 league games so far this season. Brahim Diaz has been the back up so far this season, adding 1 goal and 1 assist in his 10 appearances with 43% of the games played on average. Real Madrid has yet to agree on a fee with the club, and Milan might want to consider other options if the price is too high. Surely they will still be thinking about a certain left back who they let go of too easily.

Generating Transfer Spend (Squad Players)

Matteo Mussacchio

Valued at 7 million Euro, Milan will need to move fast to move the player on, especially with Kalulu and Gabbia adding to a strong defensive list of players ahead of him in the Milan squad currently. His contract ends in June 2021, and if Milan can't find a suitor in January, he will surely leave the club on a free.

Leo Duarte

The Brazilian never really got to make an impact since joining the team, and like Matteo, he will find it very hard to get playing time with the younger players around him all showing their value. His contract runs until 2024, so Milan do have time to make a decision on him, but with this season looking like the one to put Milan back on track, it would be wise to try and make the 5 million Euro value, be set aside for the striking replacement of Ibrahimovic when that time comes.
