AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali has been awarded the 2020 Golden Boy Award for Italy by newspaper Tuttosport. The midfielder put in impressive performances for Brescia and Milan over the course of the year warranting the award for being one of the best midfielders in the league. The midfielder will likely start the remaining games of the year as Ismael Bennacer is injured giving him a prime opportunity to further grow into his role.
Milan players have dominated the award in recent years as Donnarumma has won it (2016, 2017, 2019), Romagnoli has won it (2015) and Cutrone has won it (2018).
Tonali spoke to Tuttosport via MilanNews.it to say:
“When you win, everything changes. Going to Milan was one of the best things I’ve experienced. Winning with them is even more beautiful, we hope to continue.”
On Gattuso: “He gave me a lot of advice that I have already said in other interviews. I have a great relationship with him, I hope to continue and get to know him even better.”
On playing with Ibrahimovic: “With Ibra it was the easiest, he jokes a lot and lives his team-mates a lot. He is our leader.
On the Milan squad: “I already had a good relationship with the Italians before, I knew some of the others as opponents. We are one group.”
