Schalke 04 sporting director Jochen Schneider has commented on the rumours surrounding defender Ozan Kabak and a potential move to AC Milan this past summer and possibly another approach in the future via WAZ.

“Milan knocked on our door at the end of the transfer market and a sale at that moment was out of the question for us. I only read what was written in those days. We are still in difficult economic times, this season could be played until the end without spectators. So I can’t and I don’t want to exclude anything.”

SportBILD are now reporting that Kabak is the likeliest candidate to depart from Schalke in the winter transfer window as the club cannot rule out major sales to cover the losses arising from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the club. Kabak has been chased by Milan as recently as the summer and would be a welcome addition given the need for solidity at centre back and continuity past the ageing Simon Kjaer for the upcoming seasons. The report adds that Milan bid 20 million euros for the Turkey international in the summer which was turned down as Schalke hold out for his 45 million euro release clause to be paid. The price this winter will likely be closer to Milan’s offer.
