Fabrizio Romano for Calcio Mercato is reporting that AC Milan are looking to recruit a key player in the January transfer window in the defensive department. Milan want to add a strong centre back to their project to complement Simon Kjaer and Alessio Romagnoli as well as to boost competition. Romano is reporting that Milan have identified Matteo Lovato from Hellas Verona as the ideal signing after the youngster has burst onto the scene this season.

The 20 year old centre back is in high demand with the likes of Juventus and Inter Milan eyeing him too. Romano notes that Milan are already working on the move and would like to close it as soon as possible. Milan are confident they can secure his services for about 15 million euros despite the 20 million valuation of the player.
Some other names that Milan continue to monitor are residuals from the summer including Ozan Kabak from Schalke 04 and Nikola Milenkovic from Fiorentina but the moves seems too costly.
