AC Milan had an incredibly busy summer transfer window where Paolo Maldini and Rick Massara worked round the clock to strengthen the squad and improve the club’s financials. Milan's management have pulled off some incredible sales which they have struggled with in the past offloading a number of excess players. Here’s a summary of the departures:

DEPARTURES

Lucas Paqueta (CM/CAM) - Lyon - Permanent

20 million euros

This was the single best move from Maldini and Massaras in the window. This type of sale is one that Milan have struggled to pull off and this was an important demonstration of business acumen from the management. Players who have no space in the squad need to be sold.

Lucas Biglia (CM/CDM) - Karagumruk - Contract End

The veteran midfielder's time at Milan come to an end with a whimper. He struggled with injuries and never looked close to his Lazio days. He was another failed experiment at regista following int he footsteps of Montolivo.

Giacomo Bonaventura (CM) - Fiorentina - Contract End

This was a tough goodbye. Bonaventura still had a lot to offer and could have played a role for Milan but the management chose to go in a different direction. We will always be thankful to him for being a bright spot in the dark years.

Andre Silva (ST) - Eintracht Frankfurt - Permanent

9 million euros

The Portuguese striker impressed Frankfurt and they were determined to snap him up. This is huge win for Milan as it facilitated Rebic coming in the opposite direction. The striker never bode well in Milan thus it was a good piece of business to make some money of him.

Pepe Reina (GK) - Lazio - Mutual Termination

A good move to release the veteran keeper who was earning a monstrous wage to sit on the bench behind Donnarumma. Unsure about allowing him to join another Serie A side as a move abroad would've work better for Milan but the important win here is the financial savings.

Alen Halilovic (CAM) - ? - Mutual Termination

Nothing much to say here, he leaves quietly.

Ricardo Rodriguez (LB) - Torino - Permanent

3 million euros

The left back wanted to leave as he wants to guarantee his place for Switzerland in the Euros next summer. Milan did well to get some money from the deal as Marco Giampaolo really wanted the player in Turin.

Diego Laxalt (LB) - Celtic FC - Loan

The Uruguayan looked set to leave Milan this summer as the club was entertaining a number of deals throughout the summer. The move seemed odd at the close of deadline day as there is no backup to Theo now.

Tommaso Pobega (CM) - Spezia - Loan with option + buyback

The young midfielder was given the opportunity to fight for a place in pre-season after impressing with Pordenone last summer. He did well but was a tier lower than the talent already available. He leaves on loan but already showed his class in the game last week.

Additional Departures

Suso (RW) - Sevilla - Redemption

22 million euros

The official redemption for the Spain international was confirmed last season and the buy out was triggered and paid over the summer. This was a big move for Maldini as the exit of Suso allowed for the emergence of others and the division of labour in attack.

Gustavo Gomez (CB) - Palmeiras - Redemption

2-2.5 million euros

The centre back won the league with his new side a few months after joining them and has now officially been redeemed by the Brazilian side. The defender struggled to make an impact at the San Siro and was aptly replace by Gabbia as the fourth choice CB.

Alessandro Plizzari (GK) - Reggina - Loan

Another loan spell for the young developing goalkeeper. Surprised that he didn't hold out for a Serie A side but the development path remains as Donnarumma back up in the future.

Gabriele Bellodi (CB) - Alessandria - Loan

The young centre back gets another loan too, he needs experience and as per the pre-season definitely needs regular playing time to improve.

Frank Tsadjout (ST) - Cittadella - Loan

The attacker will be expected to make an impression this season as his hype has grown.
