AC Milan via their website have officially announced the departure of left back Diego Laxalt on loan to Celtic FC in Scotland in the final hours of the summer transfer window despite the lack of a back up on the squad now. The Uruguay international has featured as Milan's back up at LB for a few seasons now behind Ricardo Rodriguez and now Theo Hernandez but was reportedly put on sale this summer. The defender was chased by Lokomotiv Moscow, Spartak Moscow, Real Betis, Olympiacos and Sporting Clube de Portugal but has joined Milan's opponents in the Europa League at the last minute.

The deal appears to be a dry loan but the contract of the left back expires in the summer of 2021 hence will likely not return to Milan at the end of his loan. Laxalt joined Milan from Genoa for about 15-16 million euros in the summer of 2018 where he has played 35 games and provided 1 assist. He spent a few months on loan at Torino last season.
