AC Milan faced a non-professional sixth league side Rhodense in a friendly match to warm up the players ahead of the Sampdoria fixture on the 6th of January. Milan managed to put in a solid display absolutely dominating the game and winning 9-0. Zlatan Ibrahimovic was able to make his unofficial debut just one day after signing his contract with the club.
The first half ended 5-0 in Milan's favour with goals from Paqueta, Ibrahimovic, Calhanoglu and a brace from Calabria. The second half saw a switch of personnel where Milan added another four goals to the tally with Leao, Castillejo and a brace from Piatek. Stefano Pioli ran with a 4-3-3 formation throughout the game but started a more offensive looking squad with a midfield of Bonaventura, Bennacer and Paqueta.
