Who will Milan let go in order to rebuild?

After failing to qualify for Champions League and having UEFA breathing down the neck of the club, Milan will now have to reorganize their plans for the summer transfer window. Hopefully in the coming days AC Milan will announce who they have officially hired as their new sporting director and coach. It has been rumoured at the moment that Elliot has increased the Milan transfer budget to 45-50 million euros. However, Milan could increase this transfer budget by selling off some of their talent. Players that have gained the most interest from clubs include Gianluigi Donnarumma, Franck Kessie and Suso.

Gianluigi Donnarumma

Donnarumma might be the most promising player on this Milan team. Already having over 100 appearances for the club Donnarumma is a player that is both the present and the future. With all this talent and promise comes interest from clubs in other countries. Transfer rumours surrounding Donnarumma are nothing new and once Donnarumma started to perform regularly at a high level many teams have shown interest. One team that has continued to show interest over the years has been PSG.

PSG has remained interested and this could be their perfect time to strike. With Milan needing to sell some players to revamp the squad and Alessandro Plizzari performing well at the under 20 World Cup it could be a perfect storm. Donnarumma should be a pillar for Milan as they go forward into this new era as he has glimpses of word class talent. However if Milan believe in Plizzari and receive an offer that blows them away Donnarumma could leave the club. Probability of happening 3.5/10

Franck Kessie

A classic box to box midfielder, Kessie has showed that he has been important to this squad. However since coming to Milan from Atalanta Kessie has not shown much improvement. He is almost the same player as he was two years ago and some could argue this previous season was up and down for the Ivorian. Kessie has been linked to moves across the British Premier League with Arsenal, Tottenham and West ham being the most interested.

This could be an interesting situation for Milan. Has Kessie performed at Milan well, yes but has he been exceptional, not really. With the potential addition of Marco Giampaolo as the new Milan coach Kessie could thrive. Kessie would fit right into Giampaolo’s 4-3-1-2 formation. Don’t get me wrong Kessie has played well for the club but if Milan could sell him for above 30 million euros and potentially purchase another impact midfielder then Milan should consider this option. Probability 4.5/10

Suso

Suso might be the most criticized player on Milan in recent years and many of the criticisms around Suso have some validity. Suso has been a player that has carried Milan through some of the banter years of the clubs history. On the other hand Suso only performs for parts of the season. As Milan fans have seen time and time again Suso is not a consistent performer.

One big question for Suso is if he fits in Marco Giampaolo’s system. As stated previously Giampaolo plays in a 4-3-1-2 formation with no wingers. It has been rumoured that Athletic Madrid are the team most interested in the talents of Suso. Many signs point to the potential of Suso leaving the club. With inconsistent play and a change of formation then it might be time to say farewell to Suso. It would be fitting that Suso leaves the club to let Milan start fresh as he has carried the team for so many years. He has made the sacrifice to start a new chapter in his career. Probability 6/10
