Does Gennaro Gattuso think we’re all stupid? No, really, as the English would say, is he taking the piss here?

Gattuso, on the subject of benching Franck Kessie and Hakan Calhanoglu being moved to midfield from the wing, said the following:

There wasn’t a problem with Kessie, it was simply a choice made on a technical basis. Bakayoko? He grew into it in the second half, I was pleased with him. Calhanoglu? He has the qualities to play using just two touches. Physically, he’s fine, and he’s managing to keep the tempo high playing from a midfield position.

What.

Kessie wasn’t benched for “technical basis” unless by that he means “benched for getting into a fight on the sideline” because everyone who knows anything about Serie A or Milan knows exactly why Kessie was benched, and I don’t think anyone would have had a problem with it. But to say it was “technical” instead of what actually went on is insulting. Would Gattuso have said the same thing if Milan had won? I’m not sure he would have.

What a mess.
