Lazio waited for us before then attacking on the break and putting us in difficulty. We were lacking on a technical level tonight, making mistakes on the few occasions that we broke free from their pressure. Lazio were better than us, although it’s also true that they didn’t create any real killer-ball chances. Defensively, I really liked how the team played, but it’s a step back technically. Simone (Inzaghi) and I know each other well, perhaps it’s just a coincidence that these matches keep finishing 0-0. We’ll see what happens in the second leg.
It’s hard to criticize the players too much after this result, because both teams looked as if they were playing for a clean sheet rather than playing to get a win. And as much as Lazio looked better, Milan looked as if they could have played for another 90 minutes without testing the Lazio keeper, and that’s mostly on the team’s strategy, and not on the individual players.
