AC Milan Player Ratings: Parma 0-1 Milan

One of those games where the ball just doesn’t go in the goal.

This week, the Rossoneri traveled to Parma for what should be a solid three points. However, this is AC Milan we’re talking about, so of course this was painful until the end.

Milan looked easily the better team throughout, dominating both possession and chances. But, in what seems to be becoming a rule rather than an exception, the Milan attack couldn’t finish a sandwich and relied on Theo putting in a 90’ rebound to secure all three points.

Want to be sad? Theo is now Milan’s joint-top scorer. Let’s recap.

Starters

Gianluigi Donnarumma: 7.0

There really isn’t much to say about Gigio this game - Milan gave up so few chances throughout that I would bet he was pretty chilly for 90’. That said, he calmly and coolly handled his business in the box and his distribution was pretty alright, so he passes.

Andrea Conti: 5.0

I just don’t understand what Pioli sees in Conti over Calabria. This is the third (I refuse to check if this is correct) straight game that Conti has been pretty much non-existent on the pitch. He didn’t get beaten, but he didn’t contribute much if anything in buildup. I would love to see the Conti we saw at Atalanta, but he seems to just be a body filling a position these days.

Matteo Mussacchio: 7.0

Again, he was pretty fine - the lack of Parma chances seemed more about their style of play than Milan’s defensive dominance, but he handled pretty much anything that came his way. Like Gigio, just not enough action to warrant a rating any higher.

Alessio Romagnoli: 7.5

Like Mussacchio, Alessio handled just about anything that came his way this game. He gets half a point higher just due to his role in helping build-up.

Theo Hernandez: 7.0

Theo is really one of the most frustrating players I’ve watched in a while. The kid is obviously talented, but I’m not sure where he’s gotten the idea that he has the green light to shoot from outside of the box so much. He’ll do a great job of advancing the ball and helping to create an attacking situation, as seen in his goal where he found himself a rebound inside the box. But often, he’ll just fire the ball into the seats and ruin the entire process. It’s insane.

Franck Kessie: 6.0

Franck has also been driving me up a wall. He’s been doing a great job of getting himself into attacking positions, reading space well to where he receives the ball in or can deliver it into dangerous areas, but it seems like he almost literally always makes the wrong decision in that situation, completely unaware of an open teammate or waiting too long to make his decision. I don’t know how to fix it.

Ismael Bennacer: 6.5

No big shockers from Bennacer this week, which has been an improvement for him. He’s settling in nicely as the distributor of the ball for the attack, he just needs to start connecting on a few more of his balls and creating real chances.

Giacomo Bonaventura: 6.0

You’re going to see a theme with these next few attackers. Like the front three, Jack had a great game in terms of creating chances and being in dangerous areas during the attack. But also like the front three, Jack couldn’t have bought himself a goal this game. Creating chances is great, but eventually they have to start going in.

Suso: 5.5

Suso had a pretty equal game of both finding the ball on his feet with a good chance and bungling that chance. Just incredibly frustrating to watch.

Krzysztof Piatek: 5.0

Once again, Piatek had a first half that made me think he’s starting to trend up and will be finding his goalscoring form any time now. Then, he just looks absolutely lost come the second half and is Milan’s first sub at 60’. I just don’t know what to do.

Hakan Calhanoglu: 4.5

I’m sick and tired of watching Hakan in red and black.

Substitutes

Rafael Leao: 6.0

Leao had himself a pretty quiet 30’ after coming on to replace Piatek, but it wasn’t necessarily bad. I’ve really loved the way the Portuguese kid makes runs and draws defenses apart, but eventually I’d like to start seeing an eye for goal. Not a bad game by any means, just would like to see more.

Rade Krunic: 6.0

I barely noticed him after coming in for Kessie, which honestly isn’t a bad thing. Fine.
